PostSubject: Hi everyone   Sun Jan 06, 2008 6:08 pm

I've been a practising heathen for 20 odd years now after originally being involved in gardnerian witchcraft, some ritual magic and even satanism for a short period! I have learnt a lot in my time and I have developed some strong views on certain subjects so I hope I don't end up offending people.
well, its getting late so I'll have a look at the forums tomorrow, I'm sure I can bring a different point of view to a few things Wink

Surely you mean Gardnerian Wicca? Gerald described Wicca as a religion for witches, it is not actually witchcraft itself.

some ritual magic
Now I'm puzzled because Garderian Wicca is all about ritual which if you had completed your year and a day you would have been well aware of.

So have I, but I don't give a danm who I offend.

Amberlady, I know you don't care who you offend, I'm a big fan of your blog! Thats how I came across this site.
The people I was involved with when I was a young man called themselves witches rather than wiccans, I don't remember them using the word "wicca". They used books by janet and Stuart Farrer as their guides and I think they refer to their practise as witchcraft more often than not. I was a young man starting out then and I did'nt know anything about where the rituals come from or who made them up. I was relying on what I was told and twenty odd years ago information was'nt that freely available.

ah! so they were not true Wiccans - I see where you are comming from the Farrar's based much of their books on Gardenian Wicca. I don't think Gardner himself would have aproved but a lot of Pagans of our age started out with such groups, I was involved one very briefly but didn't enjoy the ritualistic element and only ever went to one meeting.

Really?!?! Amber, I thought you cared immensely what other people thought!! You always tip-toe around your views!!! Hehehe !! We know you don't care what other people think, it means your opinions are changed and mutated to be more appealing. Which is why whenever you make a comment, we know it's how you feel Smile

Ironwolf, welcome to MerryMoot!! I myself am not a big fan of the Farrar's, I have a book called "The Witches' Bible" (I got it for Christmas a few years back: my family still think I'm a witch!!) and I must say, it was too ... "by the book" for me!! No Leniance!!

Once again! Welcome!!!

The witches Bible is essential reading for anyone with a serious interest in the development of modern withcraft - Many of the cherished rituals that people claim are hundreds of years old actualy originated from this book

And ARE they hundreds of years old, or are the Farrar's pulling a Silver RavenWolf scam??

And I'm not really interested in Witchcraft: for learning purposes, it's brilliant, but, again, I think it's too restrained, too hierarchial....

I agree with Amberlady,I think Witches Bible is essential, its got a lot more substance to it than the majority of wicca books. I would say the same about their "Eight sabbats for witches" book as well.

I couldn't comment on the book about the Sabbats: I have never read it, but I think the Bible is only essential to Witches or people who want to be Witches...

Maybe not in your opinions, but to others, I am sure it is a very valid form of Witchcraft....Ironwolf for example thinks very highly of them I believe...
