I thought it would be handy to have an easy reference post for the Magical and Medicinal uses of common kitchen herbs. This guide is from my own personal studies on herbs and caution should be taken when using herbs to treat medical conditions. I recommend always seeking a doctors permission before using herbs to treat conditions. Some herbs will make certain medications less effective.

Allspice:
Latin Name: Pimenta Officinalis
Planet: Jupiter
Element: Earth
Magical use: Money, Healing

Medicinal uses: Flatulent indigestion or simple Flatulence, Some anesthetic effects when used as an ointment or bath additive.


Anise:
Latin Name: Pimpinella Anisum
Planet: Jupiter
Element: Air
Magical use: Love

Medical use: Promotes digestion, Improves appetite, Alleviates cramps and nausea, Helps relieve colic in infants.



Basil:
Latin Name: Ocimum Basilicum
Planet: Mars
Element: Fire
Magical use: Love, Protection, Money

Medicinal uses: Helps with stomach cramps, vomiting, constipation, has been used for whooping cough and also used for headaches.



Bay:
Latin Name: Laurus Nobilis
Planet: Sun
Element: Fire
Magical use: Protection, Psychic Awareness, Healing, Purification.

Medical uses: Used externally for sprains, bruises ect... can also be used as eardrops to relieve pain.



Black Pepper:
Latin Name: Piper Nigrum
Planet: Mars
Element: Fire
Magical use: Protection, Purification

Medicinal uses: Good for constipation, helps aid in digestion.



Caraway:
Latin Name: Carum Carvi
Planet: Mercury
Element: Air
Magical use: Sex, Love

Medicinal uses: Bruises, Colic in infants, also used for flavoring agents in other medicines.


Cardamom:
Latin Name: Elletaria Cardamon
Planet: Venus
Element: Water
Magical use: Love, Sex

Medicinal uses: Seeds are helpful for indigestion and flatulence, also good for colic and head disorders.



Chickweed:
Latin Name: Stellaria Media
Planet: Moon
Element: Water
Magical use: Weight Loss

Medicinal use: Leaves make a poultice for inflammation and indolent ulcers. Good for external abscess, constipation, and Coughs and hoarseness.



Chicory:
Latin Name: Chicoriurn Intybas
Planet: Sun
Element: Air
Magical use: Love

Medicinal use: Appetite stimulant, Gallstones, Gastro-enteritis, sinus problems, cuts and bruises.



Cinnamon:
Latin Name: Cinnamomum Zeylanicum
Planet: Sun
Element: Fire
Magical use: Love, Psychic awareness, Money.

Medicinal use: Helps stop vomiting, helps relieve gas and diarrhea.



Cloves:
Latin Name: Syzygium Aromaticum; Caryophyllus Aromaticus
Planet: Jupiter
Element: Fire
Magical use: Love, Money, Protection.

Medicinal use: Germicide, a powerful antiseptic, used for toothaches.



Coriander:
Latin Name: Coriandrum Cyminum

Medicinal use: No real uses.



Cumin:

Magical use: Peace, Happiness

Medicinal use: Colic, Headaches, Mainly used in veterinary practices.



Dill:

Magical use: Conscious mind, Money, Weight loss, Love.

Medicinal use: Helps with stomach problems and gas in infants.
